Season Summary 2017-18
The KBA is taking a well deserved summer break and will be back in September at Pacific Way on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Thanks to all members and drop-in participants for a great year! Our season was filled with hosting BC Winter Games, hosting Kamloops Open and competing in BadmintonBC tournaments.
BC WINTER GAMES 2018: The KBA was part of this year’s BC Winter Games in Kamloops. Members participated in the 4-day Badminton Event in several key roles: Ashley Robertson (Sport Chair), Kate Nanson and Mary Wong (Umpires), Murray Foubister (Photographer/Medal Presenter), and Andrew Shu (Zone 2 Player). The event was a huge success and KBA was proud to apart of it.
COMPETITIONS: Here’s some highlights from the 2017-18 tournaments.
Kamloops Open 2017 (Nov): Ashley Robertson won the Men’s Open Singles, and Yuzu Saito won the Women’s Open Singles.
Kelowna Open 2017 (Dec): Yuzu Saito won the Women’s Singles and Doubles.
Kelowna Junior 2018 (Mar): Owen Robertson was 2nd in U19 Boys doubles and won Consolation singles, while Kate Nanson and Mark Wong placed 2nd in U19 Girls Doubles.
Kelowna Ogopogo Masters 2018 (Mar): Murray Foubister 2nd in Mixed Doubles MX70 and Men’s Doubles MD70. Ashley Robertson won the 45 Men’s Singles.
North Central 2018 (Apr): Yuzu Saito won the Women’s Singles, and Mixed w/Robertson, and silver in U-23 Open Singles. Kate Nanson was 3rd and Mary Wong 2nd in U19 singles, and together won silver in U19 Girls Doubles. Ashley Robertson won Mixed w/Saito, won Consolation Singles and 3rd Men’s Doubles. Owen Robertson silvered in U17 Boys Singles, but won U17 Boys Doubles, U19 Mixed and the Adult/Child event.
Murray Foubister won Bronze in XD70 and MD70 BC at the 2018 BC Provincials 2018 in March and 4th in MX75 at the 2018 Canadian Masters Nationals in April.
INTERESTED IN PLAYING NEXT YEAR?
The KBA welcomes all players to our Tuesday/Thursday 8-10 pm sessions at Pacific Way. We also offer Family Fall Sessions available through Kamloops Par & Rec Guide, from 7 pm to 8 pm. The KBA is also co-sponsoring Scot Young Training Sessions at SaHali Sec on Sundays 10am-noon, running from September to December. Scot Young is a Nationally-trained coached currently at the Kelowna Badminton Club with over 40 years of playing/coaching experience. These lessons are open to new players and for competitive players. Contact KBA regarding registration details.
